THE STORY SO FAR...
DANNY MCAVOY'S JOURNEY
Over the past 20 years or so, Danny has written a number of completely new and original musicals. In 2020 he planned to start staging them but then Covid-19 struck and closed down public theatre.
Danny decided to make serialised radio productions of two of his musicals, Little Ships and Uprising! so he hired a super group of professional actor/singers and worked with them on line to create those two five episode radio productions. These productions were broadcast during 2020/21 by radio stations in the UK and elsewhere to, so the radio stations told us, around 200,000 listeners for each episode. In 2022 Danny wrote anther musical called Eddie & Jenny. He also made this musical into a radio production that was broadcast leading up to Christmas 2022.
Danny is thrilled to say that John Cameron, who among many other major achievements, wrote all the Les Mis Scores from 1976 to 2005, has agreed to be his mentor.
BUILDING ON DANNY'S WORK
With, we sincerely hope, the worst of C-19 behind us we decided to create a new, community focused, company to stage Danny's musicals and then the musicals of other new writers, and so Purrple Cat CIC was born. A core part of our mission is to use our professional productions as a vehicle for developing new musical theatre talent.

LITTLE SHIPS BY DANNY MCAVOY
Our first new musical
In 2023 we plan to stage a pilot production of Danny McAvoy's original musical Little Ships at the Barnfield Theatre Exeter 0n the 1st to the 3rd of June. This production will be funded by Danny. Following a successful pilot, we plan to seek Arts Council funding for a touring production of Little Ships, initially in Devon and Somerset and then elsewhere in the UK.
Little Ships is a two act, 140 minute long original story set in war-time England in 1940. It is about growing up, taking risks, finding self and inner strength, of taking responsibility and overcoming adversity. It is also a story of family commitment, fidelity and love.

NEW MUSICALS & NEW TALENT
New writers, actors, singers, dancers and stage crew
At the core of Purrple Cat CIC is the desire and drive to help new people get into musical theatre. We offer opportunities for new people to act, sing and dance alongside our professionals and we enable them to shadow and learn from our professional cast and crew.
Our pilot cast for Little Ships will include professionals, performing arts students and 2023 graduates of The University of Exeter and Plymouth University and local amateur performers.
