Creative Health
Purrple Cat is not a health service that happens to use theatre. It is a theatre company whose creative practice can support connection, reflection, understanding and wellbeing, to improve health as well as community cohesion.
What we mean by creative health
Creative health is the relationship between creative activity and wellbeing.
At Purrple Cat, it means using music, storytelling, movement and performance to create space for expression, connection and reflection.
Our productions explore experiences that are often reduced to labels, including homelessness and rough sleeping, addiction, mental health and poverty.
Theatre allows audiences to encounter these subjects through real human stories, while giving artists and participants a shared process through which to listen, make, question and connect.
Our role is to make ambitious, professional theatre that can open up difficult conversations, challenge stigma and help people see themselves and one another with greater understanding.
